With the increase in online transactions and internet usage, cyber crimes are also increasing. One of these is Cyber scam online, under which people become victims of online fraud. If you have also been a victim of cyber fraud, you can immediately report it online.

The Government of India has launched a website called “Cyber Crime Portal” (https://cybercrime.gov.in/), through which you can report cyber crime online. This portal works 24 hours, seven days.

How to report:

Visit the Cyber Crime Portal (https://cybercrime.gov.in/).

Click “Report another crime.”

Click on “Citizen Login”.

If you report for the first time, you must register first.

After registering, you can log in and file reports.

In the report, you must provide:

  • The date.
  • Time.
  • Location of the incident.
  • Details of the culprit.
  • The amount of money or data you lost.

You will also have to upload all the documents related to the incident.

After filing the report, you will get an FIR number.

You can use this FIR number to go to the police station and get a copy of your report.

Cyber scam online

Mobile App:

You can also report cyber fraud using a mobile app called “Cyber Crime Reporting.” This app is available on Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

Helpline:

You can also report cyber fraud by calling the cyber crime helpline number 1930.

Things to keep in mind while reporting:

Provide accurate and complete information when reporting.

Upload all documents related to the incident.

After filing the report, take a printout of the FIR number.

If you must go to the police station, carry the FIR number.

To avoid cyber fraud:

Do not open unknown emails, links, or attachments.

Avoid sharing your personal information on social media.

Use strong passwords and change them regularly.

Regularly check the transactions on your bank accounts and credit/debit cards.

Notify your bank or financial institution immediately about any suspicious activity.
